TECH Tips Installation of Bendix ® ADB22X ® Air Disc Brakes – Best Practices Technical Bulletin Bulletin No: TCH-023-002 Effective Date: 01/31/2017 Cancels: N/A Page: 1 of 2 Subject: Installation of Bendix ® ADB22X ® Air Disc Brakes – Best Practices This bulletin is to inform technicians installing Bendix ADB22X Air Disc Brake that when mounting a caliper/carrier assembly, Bendix recommends the fasteners, washers, torque and torque sequences shown below. Vertical Mount Fastener & Torque Sheer Sleeve Washers are not used on vertical-mounted ADB22X assemblies Shelf Short (floating) Pin Sheer Sleeve Service Actuators Shown Right-hand Brake Left-hand Brake Fastener: M16 x 2.0 x 110 mm, Class 10.9. Use the manufacturer’s recommendations, but if unavailable, use a plain and oil-finish fastener. Bendix strongly recommends using new fasteners each time. Washer: None used. Torque: Using the torque pattern below, pre-torque to between 40-50 ft-lbf [54-68 N·m], with a final torque 180-200 ft-lbf [244-271 N·m] Left-Hand Brake Torque Pattern ( Viewed from Below ) Right-Hand Brake Torque Pattern ( Viewed from Below ) Sheer sleeve above, in this location (view from below) Shelf above, in this location Brake’s short (floating Pin) is this side Sheer sleeve above, in this location (view from below) Shelf above, in this location Brake’s short (floating pin) is this side Axial Mount Fastener & Torque Anchor Plate/ Torque Plate Six (6) Mounting Bolts and Washers are Required Caliper/Carrier Assembly (showing service actuator ) Fastener: M20 x 2.5 x 60 mm Class 10.9. Use the manufacturer’s recommendations, but if unavailable, use a phosphate and oil-finish fastener. Bendix strongly recommends using new fasteners each time. Washer: Requires a HARDENED 3mm (minimum thickness) washer for each bolt. If the vehicle is using a Bendix manufactured axial anchor plate, with a thickness of 1.14 in. (29mm) at the point where these bolts are inserted, then a bolt with an overall length of 2.36 in. (60mm) will meet the requirements. CAUTION: The washer outside diameter must be less than 1.5 in (37.5mm).
